Josef Alexander Martínez Mencia was born in Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela. He began his football journey in his home country, developing his skills in the youth academy of Caracas FC, one of the nation’s most prominent clubs.
Career
Josef Martínez began his professional career with Caracas FC, making his senior team debut in 2010. His impressive performances as a young forward quickly attracted attention from European scouts. In 2012, he made the move to Europe, signing with Young Boys in the Swiss Super League. A successful loan spell at FC Thun, where he was a top scorer, demonstrated his potential and led to a transfer to a bigger club. In 2014, Martínez was sold to Torino, giving him the opportunity to compete in Italy’s prestigious Serie A for three seasons.
In 2017, Martínez made a career-defining move to Major League Soccer, joining the expansion team Atlanta United. His impact was immediate and historic.
